From snazzy new filters that made us look like glam rockstars to features that had us scrolling endlessly (in the best way possible), Instagram has been the gift that keeps on giving. So, buckle up and get ready to take a stroll down the Insta-memory lane as we delve into some of the coolest, trendiest, and downright awesome updates that made our feeds brighter, bolder, and oh-so-addictive in 2023!

Multiple Links in Bio

Instagram finally got rid of the need to use Linktree and other services by allowing multiple links in your bio.

To use the feature, tap “Edit profile,” then “Links,” then “Add external link.” You can drag and drop the links in the order you want them to appear.

Instagram Launches Threads

Threads is a new app made by Instagram where users can post threads, reply to others and follow profiles that they’re interested in. It’s a direct Twitter competitor.

Here’s some more info on Threads:

  • Threads and replies can take various forms, including short pieces of text, links, photos, videos, or any combination of them.

  • People can follow each other to see their threads and replies in their feeds and from their profiles.

  • Users can decide who can see their posts in profile privacy settings.

  • People can reply to posts to join the discussion or like, share, quote, or repost content.

  • Anyone with an Instagram account can create a Threads profile.

When you create a profile on Threads, it becomes directly linked to your Instagram account.

Scheduling Posts

You can now conveniently schedule your Instagram posts in-app!

Before you begin

  • The steps below only apply if you’re trying to schedule posts and Reels on the Instagram mobile app.

  • You must have a professional account on Instagram.

  • You can schedule up to 25 posts a day.

  • You can schedule content up to 75 days in advance.

How to schedule a post or Reel on Instagram

  • Open the Instagram app, tap and tap Post or Reel.

  • Select a photo or video and add a caption, effects and filters. Tap (Android) or Next (iOS).

  • Tap Advanced settings.

  • Tap Schedule.

  • Select a date and time up to 75 days away.

  • Tap Done.

  • Tap the back button.

  • Tap Schedule to schedule the post or Reel.

Note: Features like product tagging, collaborative posts, cross posting to Facebook, sponsored posts, and fundraisers aren’t compatible with scheduled content at this time.

Pinning Posts to Your Profile

This update allows you to pin your posts to the top of your IG grid! This functionality isn't groundbreaking, having already existed on platforms such as Twitter or TikTok, but its addition to Instagram was certainly overdue.

Instagram Professional Dashboard

The professional dashboard is a game changer!

This feature is available for all creator and business accounts and can serve as a main in-app dashboard to analyze your account’s performance. Here’s the list of its main tools and resources:

  • Overall account performance

  • Instagram Insights

  • Promotions

  • Branded Content Approvals

  • Instagram Shopping

  • Saved Replies

The Professional Dashboard is a great tool to have a quick overview of your statistics but if you want to dive a little deeper, you still need to go to Instagram Insights for that.

Collaboration Posts

Another useful new feature is that you can create joint posts. The post will appear both on your feed and on your collaborator’s profile.

To invite a collaborator to a post you're creating:

  • Before you publish your post, tap Tag people.

  • Tap Invite collaborator.

  • Search for the account you want to add as a collaborator, then tap the account.

  • Tap Done.
